When President Trump nominated Georgia’s Tom Price to serve as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, we were proud to see this Georgian taking a leading role in the new administration. However, there’s one drawback to Price’s new job: the national FairTax® movement lost a committed, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic co-sponsor of HR-25, the FairTax Act of 2017.
To fill the vacant seat, voters in Georgia’s 6th Congressional District will go to the polls on April 18, 2017 and vote for one of the 18 candidates who have qualified for the special election. In the special election, all candidates (democrats, republicans, and independents) run on the one ballot. According to Wikipedia, if no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote, a run-off election will be held on June 20th for the top two finishers.
Our challenge as FairTax advocates will be to elect a candidate who will co-sign HR-25 as soon as he or she is sworn in, and follow Tom Price’s example by championing the FairTax.
With 18 candidates to study, how will voters be able to determine which ones will support the FairTax? We will tell you. We have sent all 18 candidates the FairTax pledge. This is essentially the same pledge that we have sent to all candidates running for legislative office since 2014. And we are available to discuss the FairTax in detail with these candidates.
As we receive signed Pledges, we will post the name of the candidate on our Facebook page and update the website. View the full list of candidates below.
Senator David Perdue, a political newcomer when he ran for the Senate, took us up on our offer, learned about the FairTax, signed the FairTax pledge to advocate for the FairTax, and won the election. He is a very strong FairTax advocate in the US Senate.
If you don’t see a YES beside your candidate’s name, feel free to ask him or her to sign the Georgia FairTax Pledge! Click on the candidate’s name on our website and the candidate’s website address will appear.
Let’s keep GA District 6 in the FairTax column!
